Blast to the Past!

Hello JARS!

Lots of stuff. If you don’t want to read through everything (and I can’t say I blame you), feel free to scroll down until you see a heading you’re interested in. I organized them all neatly like that for the slacker in all of us.

-Old things:-

Club email: utmanime@email.com

Meetings are currently Wed, 6:30-8:30pm in the Watkins Auditorium.

--Why you should show up next week: (That is, Wed, Feb 15)--

-MTAC! Convention Trip-

We’re organizing the Middle Tennessee Anime Convention trip. Who’s going, when we’re going, how much it’ll cost, how we’ll pay for it and when, what there is to do, who’s riding with who, and so on. Questions will be answered, signups will be taken, and details will be sorted out.

If you’re interested in MTAC, we’re looking for hotels. So, hotel ideas, quotes, locations, opions, reviews, and so on would be helpful – If you have any, please bring them to the meeting.

** If you’re going or interested in going, show up. If for some reason you cannot show up, please send a message to utmanime@email.com or call Nova.

General information on MTAC: http://www.mtac.net/

-DUES! Voting-

If you’re not going to MTAC, SHOW UP as we will be voting on Dues for next semester (a second time, to get an accurate vote) before the MTAC set up.

If you cannot attend, you may email your vote or call Nova. Options are: Less than $5 , $5, and $10.

-Poster Contest:-

Also, we will begin collecting submissions for the poster contest-like thing:

Each member may create and submit one poster for JARS (or a JARS-related event) by 6:30, Wednesday, Feb 22.

At the Wed, Feb 22 meeting, we will display these and have a very informal popular vote. Best poster gets a beautiful little box of Pocky provided by your’s truly – Strawberry unless you don’t like strawberry in which case we will work something out – and highly coveted bragging rights.

All posters (within reason) will be posted around campus to advertise the club, with the creator’s permission. (this is the real purpose.)

Rules for posters: No guns/knives/swords visible, no nudity, no vulgarity – Questionable or offensive content may be blatantly censored via large pieces of paper saying “JARS”.

Any media is acceptable including but not limited to scuptures, digital editing, photography, collages, drawings, finger paintings, and body art as long as it’s in a presentable location. No size requirements or really any requirements. Have fun.

Things you may want to include, in case you’re drawing a blank:

JARS – Japanese Animation Research Society – Wednesdays, 6:30-8:30, Watkins Auditorium – Anime Club – UTM – utmanime@email.com, Car Bash (Date to be inserted later, of course) – MTAC Trip – Viewing Schedual (please avoid advertising one specific anime) – Old School Night – Other theme night… and so on.

-Tentative Schedual: (subject to change)-

Feb 15 – MTAC Set up, Dues Voting

Feb 22 – Revolutionary Girl Utena

Mar 1 – Spirited Away

-Elections:-

Officer elections for next semester will be held this semester after midterms. More details on specifics later but please begin thinking about whether or not you’d like to run for an office.

--Other Events:--

-Really Cheap Manga! -

Via Suncoast, which is shutting down most of its locations in Tennessee including, we assume, the one in the Jackson mall. If you’d like to go to Suncoast in Jackson this weekend (Week of 6/08/06) for the purpose of buying said inexpensive thing, please send an email to utmanime@email.com saying something to that effect as soon as possible – We may be able to organize some carpooling.

-Pocky!-

Yes, you, too, can own delicious, edible Pocky. Here’s how:

*Union City Super Walmart – Strawberry only, small boxes, rouhgly $1, in the Foreign Foods section. (Warning: They’re usually out.)

*Online via http://www.asianfoodgrocer.com/ - Had several people ask me where I get my Pocky, so here it is: This is an online site specializing in imported Japanese foods, including Pocky and assorted Japanese snacks. There are several other sites which offer Pocky, but afg’s got a good reputation and they’re the cheapest I’ve found with shipping.

If you’d like to order some Pocky but don’t want to order in bulk and/or don’t want to give someone online your information, please let me know (novacant@mars.utm.edu, 8304, Nova, at the meetings, usually in front rambling about something or other off-topic). If I get enough interest, I’ll see if I can put in an order for everyone to get a bulk discount. No promises, but let me know.

That’s all I’ve got! See you next week!

Hey everyone!

At this week's meeting, we watched the beginning of the third Inuyasha movie. Obviously, this web page has been set up as a temporary site for basic use and information - It will remain active until our campus web site is finally approved and up and running. (Please, pardon our dust.)

Check out the Upcoming Events page!

TOMMORROW, Thursday, 1pm til we all get wrinkly, we'll be meeting up in the gameroom to work on posters.

NEXT WEEK, Car Bash on Wednesday Nov 16 (time to be decided), on the grass between the UC, Ellington, and McCord, and Cosplay Panel on Friday Nov 18, 8pm, UC 111! Get active, guys! We've got a lot going on and it's all going to be an absolute blast!

As of today, our tentative schedual for the rest of the semester is:

Outlaw Star (Jap)

One Piece (Eng)

Fushigi Yuugi (Jap)

(Group choice, TBA)

Ghost in the Shell (Eng)

If you'd like to do or help with the research on one of the above (aside from TBA, smart aleck) as your culture notes, please let a member of the viewing committee know or email utmanime@email.com !

See you next week! (And hopefully tommorrow!)
